Castor Oil: Uses and Benefits

Castor oil is my favorite tool in my apothecary! It has been used for centuries by health care providers and folk healers. It is so versatile and can be used for just about anything to heal and provide ultimate health to many areas of our bodies. This is something I use every single day in many different ways. We will first talk about the best Castor oil to use, then the benefits and then the many different methods it can be used, I will also list a couple recipes below for correlating uses.

Castor oil is a vegetable oil, produced by crushing the seeds of the castor oil plant. There are two commons types that you can purchase, regular castor oil and cold-pressed castor oil. The regular castor oil is made through the process of crushing the seeds and allowing them to form into a brick or cake-like substance, they then use a chemical extraction method to remove most of the remaining oil in the 'cake'. The pressed method is by crushing the seeds to remove the oil using low or high temperatures. Cold-pressed is, in my opinion, the best option to choose.

Castor oil benefits us internally and externally by helping to heal skin conditions, infections, constipation relief, immune system support, anti-inflammatory agent, antimicrobial agent, lymphatic stimulant, arthritis treatment, strengthen and grow hair, acne treatment, skin moisturizer, deep cleanser, to improve immunity function, eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, reduce swelling and inflammation, increase circulation, relieve menstrual cramps, helps relieve congestion, break down bone spurs, tumors and growths, and many more. Castor oil penetrates very deep, deeper than any oil.

As you can see, castor oil can heal just about anything you struggle with. It can be used externally in many forms such as in oil mixtures with other healing oils for our skin, with herbs and spices for pain, in castor oil packs for pain, bone spurs or growths. It can be used internally for constipation or to clean out the colon by ingesting a small amount with water.

I use this every single day in my facial oils, for sun burns, pain, inflammation, sore muscles, menstrual cramps,  in my homemade perfume, castor oil pack for kidney stones and many more methods.

Below I will list a few recipes that use castor oil as the main ingredient that can benefit your health and daily life, naturally. Note- each recipe can be altered to your liking and can use substitute oil additives.

Facial oil for fine lines and wrinkles:

In a dropper bottle fill 3/4 way with cold-pressed castor oil

Add small amount of Vitamin E oil

3-5 drops Frankincense essential oil

3-5 drops Lavender essential oil

(Substitute Vitamin E oil- Jojoba Oil)

Infused oil: Castor oil with herb/spices for Inflammation/Arthritis:

In a dropper bottle fill 3/4 way with cold-pressed castor oil

Add 1/4 cayenne pepper

1/4 ground turmeric

1/4 ground ginger

(Note: this can fill gritty and leave slight yellow residue)

Salve: Castor oil with herb/spices for Inflammation/Arthritis:

1/4 cup Cold-pressed castor oil

2 tablespoons of unrefined shea butter

2 tablespoon of beeswax (not needed, helps seal on skin well)

2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

2 teaspoon of turmeric

2 teaspoon of ginger

Put in double boiler and melt all together, put in jar and refrigerate for few hours to firm, then ready to use.

Eyebrow/Eyelash serum:

Use empty mascara container (cleaned) or buy empty mascara container

Add 1 tablespoon castor oil

2 drops of vitamin E oil

2 drops of lavender essential oil

2 drops of rosemary essential oil

Apply to eyebrows or eyelashes as often as you like, at night and can use as eyebrow gel to brush in place.

Compress (using wraps or clothe- apply to area and place some on wrap/clothe):

Abdomen: apply to target area and to wrap, sleep with it overnight or leave on for few hours

-breaks up fibroids, cyst on ovaries, soften and heals colon for constipation or diarrhea, break up kidney and gallbladder stones

Lump/Growth in breast: apply to target area and place some on panty liner/pad, place inside bra and wear all day

Bone Spur: apply to target area and to clothe, place on bone spur, ensure to wrap plastic on the back of the clothe (the outside) to not soil clothes and to insulate.

Arthritis: apply to target area and to clothe, place on painful area such as section of arm, leg, knee, place plastic on back of clothe to not soil clothes and leave on overnight or few hours; if larger area such as back, use wrap for body and do the same minus the plastic.

(Note: for lumps, growths, even cancerous ones, or bone spurs, if they have been there for 3 years, it may take 3 months to break down, been there for 3 months, may take 3 weeks, consistency is key with more serious ailments.)

Congestion/Lymphatic drainage: apply to target area (on neck) and on wrap or clothe, leave on overnight or for few hours.

Menstrual Cramps:

Can use castor oil compress with wrap and heating pad (intermittently)

Or can make a mixture in dropper bottle or pour into hand each time apply-

For bottle- fill with castor oil and add 10-15 drops of clary sage essential oil

For hand- pour small amount of castor oil and add 1-3 drops of clary sage essential oil

Bug Bites/Stings:

Place in dropper bottle (any size- preferably a small 1-2oz dropper bottle)

Fill with castor oil and add 15-30 drops of tea tree essential oil

Body Spray (alternative to toxic perfumes):

In small spray bottle (new or reused and cleaned perfume bottle)

2 tablespoon witch hazel

1 tablespoon castor oil

15 drops essential oil of choice (can split between mixture of more than one oil for preferred scent)

Hemorrhoids:

Take a little finger size of cotton ball, soak in castor oil, place in freezer to freeze (will take 3 days to freeze), once frozen, insert in anus. The castor oil will soften and shrink hemorrhoids.

Eyesight Improvement:

Apply small amount onto eyelids at night, it will seep into the eyes and fall into eye on eyelashes, over time with consistent use, can improve eyesight.

Facial Cleanser:

Pour small amount in hand and use as makeup remover or cleanser, the oil breaks down makeup and our natural skin oil buildup better than common store bought cleansers or water based products, as our skin oil like other oils repel water.

Again, castor oil can be used for so many things and can treat and heal many to almost all common ailments or issues with experience. I hope you are able to find a recipe or create your own that suits you best and heals you from within. With all my love and light.
