Cultivating a Mini Farm

Having a little farm can bring some much value to your life and homestead. There are so many benefits to having a garden and some animals. Having some chickens to lay eggs as a source of food and having goats to eventually have some goat milk to make multiple things such as goat milk, goat cheese and goat soap. Having a garden, no matter the size, can be small with a couple plants to give you some seasonal foods that our bodies need or a big one full of all kinds of plants for food and even medicine.

For me this is a good start, starting a medium size garden and having chickens and goats to improve my homestead. This provides more than actual tangible things to have to nourish our bodies and support our lives but it also provides joy, peace and comfort. Having these animals and a garden to tend to and take care of each day bring immense joy in my daily life. Being able to see my hard work and effort sprout in my garden and see the growth and happiness from my animals, that gives me peace in knowing that my work and time has brought forth something beautiful.

There are studies that show that being around farm animals can help reduce stress levels and even improve social skills. Being able to be around any animal can help bring a sense of comfort. There are studies that show that gardening can make you feel more peaceful and content, focusing on the task and details of gardening reduce negative thoughts and feelings.

There are many proven benefits to our daily lives that come from having a farm, no matter the size, mini, small or large. Farms can bring health benefits as well, there are microbes from farms that may help prevent asthma and allergies, even helps you breathe easier.

I understand that certain areas and places we may live may not allow to have a little farm, garden or farm animals or you may not desire to have any, but take these benefits into account and take that as an inspiration to visit a farm, get around farm animals, get out in nature, plant a few single pot garden. No matter where we live or the life we have currently, there are still ways to carve these little things into our lives to reap the rewards of what nature offers us.

There are so many things we can learn from farming, no matter the extent of it. I encourage you to visit a farm, start a garden big or small, get some farm animals, go get around some animals and reduce your stress and find peace and comfort in the presence of nature.

Here are my goats, chickens and garden so far this year, small, yet growing.

In my herb garden I have planted a variety of common herbs to make tincture and medicine with. My garden is still sprouting, each day something new coming up and growing taller day by day, there is a variety of vegetables, greens and fruits. The hen house is home to my seven buff chickens, named Agnes, Eleanor, Lorraine, Mabel, Irene, Ivy and Olive. My two goats are Nigerian Dwarf goats, they are only a month old, a boy and girl, named Cedar and Aspen (still with their moms for a few more weeks).

This is a small start to building my homestead and cultivating a little farm, but I have already experience such joy with the work required to have these things and experiencing the growth and change in them. Remember, it doesn't have to be much or big, plant a pot plant, visit a farm, get out in nature and enjoy what she has given us. With all my love and light.
