Who are you?

Do you ever stop and wonder, what are we doing here? The world, society, today is nothing like it once was and as time goes on, we gradually drift further and further away from things that really matter. Sometimes I feel so lost and alien to this world. All these false lives and unimportant ways of existing, it is nothing I know. What happened to living life fully, in the moment, in accordance with the earth, not worrying about trends, being in the physical world and not digital, being simple, kind, compassionate, considerate, connected? What happened?

Where did we as human beings go so wrong? At what point did our sight fail us to what really matters? When did we become this robotic imitation of who we as people used to be? It saddens me to see what the world has turned into. Everything we do is to be seen, and for what? To impress, to show off, for validation? When did we lay our hearts down and become so cold and empty? All I see when I look around today are empty carcasses, soulless vessels, pale shadows of the past.

We used to be so full of life and soul but now we are lifeless and vacant. We used to be happy and have light in our eyes but that light has gone out, fooling ourselves, thinking we are happy but the light we see in our eyes is a mere reflection of the technology screens we obsess over. Our world has changed, we have lost touch. I mean, who are you? Do you know? It's not your name or what you do, who are you truly? People used to could say, "I am a soul", "I am free", "I am happy", "I am a lover", "I am a giver", "I am whole". What do we say now? "I am numb", "I am an influencer", "I am blind", "I am artificial", "I am not sure".

We have completely and utterly lost ourselves as a human race. We have willingly allowed ourselves to get sucked into the black hole called the internet, social media. Now, everything is dark, a grey film on everything. There used to be so much color in the world. There was a time when we were present, actually living in the moment, creating our lives, not social media creating it for us, making memorable moments, actually experiencing things with our eyes, ears and hearts, not through our phones camera, doing things that actually made us happy, doing things that meant something to us, not doing things to get a certain amount of likes and views, taking pictures and videos and making memories for ourselves to look back at, not to share with the world.

When did everything outside of ourself and home become more important? When did we begin inviting the world into our life, our family moments, personal achievements, our intimate moments? Nothing is just for ourselves or the ones we love, we have to include everyone through social media. We miss out on many special moments trying to capture it to show the world. When did we forget that we don't have to record or capture every moment in order to remember it?

Think when someone older is telling a story from the past, they don't have to have pictures or videos to show to relive or retell the moment, only their memory because they were actually present in that moment. We instead choose to let our phones be our eyes, to become our memory. I'm sad that this is who we are now as people. Not there. We instead choose to have moments and experiences just to be able to show others. When did we give up the value of privacy, having our own stories, living our lives for ourselves.

We gave away our ability for connection, not only in our personal lives, our relationships, our family, but with the earth. We have forgotten that we are made up of the same elements as the earth, going through constant cycles in accordance to nature. Poisoning ourselves willingly with products, foods, medications and many other things. For hundreds, thousands of years, humans lived in harmony with nature, the earth. They worked in accordance with daylight, slept in accordance of night, planted food in accordance to seasons, harvested in accordance to seasons, they lived by and with the earth.

Now, today, can we say we do that? Do we allow our bodies to flow with these cycles, in sync with the seasons? We have forgotten and neglected ourselves by forgetting and neglecting the old ways, the simpler ways of living. So, thinking of all of this, how far we have come in the world and in technology, don't you see we have never been further from ourselves, from nature, from truth, further than ever before. We may be breathing, walking, talking, eating, laughing, but are we alive, truly? Are we? Is our soul still there? What are we doing? Who are we? What have we forgotten in order to keep up with society, to be popular, to get views. Are you really living?
